After about 3 days of this, the callouses will start to peel off. Once that happens your dog will be back to normal until the callouses build up again. Then you put the coconut oil on again. Canada. There seems to be no cure other than maintenance. One has to be on top of an outbreak (which apparently comes down into the paws and is very painful; therefore, the licking and self mutilation of paws) and one must cover the paws affected. She is six yrs old but has suffered from this problem for 3 to 4 yrs. No research will be, as my vet explained, as humans will not have this medical problem. Any known treatment would be appreciated.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-307439752726871680.post-35565585419257545602011-04-16T15:42:09.272-07:002011-04-16T15:42:09.272-07:00Cindy, I'd live to chat with you more about th...Cindy, I'd live to chat with you more about this disease. Would you please send me an email? You can reach me at home@paws-on-the-run.ca I'd like to know how long it has been bothering your sheltie for, if the pads get worse and worse, if the attacks get more frequent and if it gets more and more painful or if it just stays the same. His paw are in much worse shape than you dog's paws. I dip him in a 50% solution of propylene glycol. His paw pads have improved, but he will never recover.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03117184784613084848noreply@blogger.com
