Appealing

I can't explain why, because there is so much wrong with this picture - cut off body parts come to mind - but I really like it.  And do you see that little burgundy vehicle in the background? That is our new Chevy Trailblazer!  It is by far, the swankiest vehicle we've ever had.  It has a CD player and it isn't from the 90's!  Whoo Hoo!

You never know what might be lurking in the river.

Camping Time

A few weeks ago Marlin and I bought our first trailer.  It is a 30 year old Travelaire and I think it is almost perfect.  What isn't perfect is that we need to buy a new vehicle to haul it.  Don't ask.

I finally took a few moments to introduce the girls to the trailer.  Coulee hopped in no problem and wandered around at ease. She was even ready to wave goodbye to the City and hello to the wilderness.  Don't worry about her scared look - she isn't afraid of bears, she just gets weird when I ask her to wave. She really, really wants to high five instead and she is looking for something to touch her paw to.

Lacey on the other hand, didn't really want to get in.  It took some coaxing and the whole time she was in there, she looked beaten despite a 101 treats.  We are going to have to work on that!

All Work and Little Play

I feel like all I've done is work this weekend.

Friday night I was on my own as Marlin was at a friend's stag.  I took the dogs for a quick romp after work (it was a long 11 hour day I might add) and then sat down at the computer to do more work.  I recently purchased a "shopping cart" for my photography business and while I've been working on setting it up for weeks, it still wasn't completely ready.  It is a slick system that allows you to pick whether you want a digital image or print or canvas or really anything I want to sell.  You chose your images and your sizes and then you just pay by PayPal. I know it will be great eventually, but man there is a lot of stuff to customize and I was finding things on Friday night that I didn't even know I needed to do.

On Saturday morning I woke up, delivered papers and then went to the daycare.  The reason I was working so hard the night before on the shopping cart, was because we were having a Lethbridge Pugster Meet-Up at the daycare.  So I went in early to do some stuff that I've been putting off for a while. Fun stuff like moving gravel, hanging up a towel rack that had fallen down, touching up some paint, dusting, etc.

The event was a lot of fun.  I asked if I could take photos so I got to hang out, chat and play with the pups.  But man, am I not thrilled with the photos. I usually shoot in Manual, but I was really struggling because the dogs were running inside and out, and when they were inside, how close they were to the open door really made a difference in the lighting.  I was initially trying to change settings back and forth, but I just couldn't keep up and was constantly taking pictures in the wrong setting.  So I switched to a different mode to make my photo taking easier but it sure made my processing harder! (More on that in a moment.) And I really need to figure out a system with 14 dogs running around.  I just went from cuteness to cuteness, but I think I need to spend more time systematically focusing on individual dogs instead of just randomly taking pictures.

When that was over, Marlin and I went vehicle shopping.  Which was kind of fun, but really not very relaxing.  We were there until they closed and were no closer to figuring out what we wanted and needed.  Sigh.

Today, Marlin and I finally tackled some yard work.  We got the patio furniture out, cleaned up the garage, picked up poop, mowed the lawn and pulled some weeds. It was hot.  So in the afternoon, I came back in to work on the pug pictures.

Due to the settings on my camera, there were so many under and over exposed photos I felt like just ditching the whole batch.  Combine that with the fact that the daycare really doesn't make a pretty background, I ended up doing a lot more editing that usual.  Which is fine, but it took me forever.

But the really frustrating part came when I tried to upload the pictures to my new shopping cart site.  The first attempt took an hour (during which I joined Marlin on the patio for a drink, so time was well spent).  But it didn't work.  So I tried again. This time I puttered on the computer for an hour while waiting.  That didn't work either. So I tried just uploading 6 pictures.  Nope, no luck.  Then I tried just one photo. Still no luck.

I FINALLY went to the help area and after searching for some time, I discovered that my file sizes were too big.  Big Sigh.  One of the things I loved about this system was that people would be able to download digital files immediately after purchasing and I wouldn't have to do a thing.  What they failed to mention is that it is only going to work for the low resolution images.  Sigh. Not the end of the world, but a little frustrating.

Now I still need to vacuum, make dinner and get my 52 weeks photo of Lacey.  I was hoping to get some stuff loaded into the trailer this weekend but there just wasn't time.

I hope the week is more relaxing than the weekend!

Jetta and Cricket

Lacey get sooo excited when we meet Jetta and Cricket at the dog park.  Her high pitched bark comes out and for Lacey, that is her highest compliment.  That, and biting.  :)

The weather has been great all week, so the river was a welcome treat.

Coulee was the only one actually out swimming though. The peanut gallery all stayed on shore.

I have about 101 shaking pictures of Cricket.  But I love her little foot off the ground in this one.

Lacey, as usual, is moving to her own beat.  Really, where is she going????

The girls, Vito and I had a quick river walk tonight after work.  We were all at the daycare for more than 11 hours so it was a welcome leg stretch for all of us.  I was surprised how busy it was.  I'm not sure if it was the time of day, or the nice weather, or both, that brought the troops out.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a little quieter.

Laws of Attraction

Cricket is Jetta's sister.  She reminds me  a lot of Vito.  Apparently if your dog is short, black and likes to bark, you'll love to hang out with Coulee.  Lucky for Coulee we get Vito this weekend.  It has been a while.  I've missed him. Lacey will be thrilled... Coulee not so much. I'll have to pick her up some earplugs because if the weather holds, there will be lots of river time this weekend!  I can't wait.

More pictures from our walk today to come!

Capturing the Moment

I'm sure...

... you are...

...all wondering...

...what Coulee...

...is doing.

Or maybe...

...you figured it out with the first picture!

Apparently she only has one expression when you are throwing the ball.

I Can't Help It

I can't seem to resist taking dogs off leash. Even when I think and KNOW it isn't the smartest thing to do, I can't stop myself.  In my defense, it has never turned out badly and that is probably why I keep doing it.

Lily is with the Windy City Canine Rescue and being a hound, has a tendency to wander away with her nose to the ground.

But she has also spent 5 months cooped up in an animal shelter so she really needs to get her zoomies out.  And boy did she get her zoomies out today.

She literally ran circles around my girls. Neither of them could catch her.  And she did great. She only wandered off once, and she came back long before I reached panic mode.  :)

For some reason, Lacey has not taken to Lily.  And I can't really figure out why.  Lily does all the things Lacey usually likes in a dog - she runs, she wants to wrestle, and she likes to play tug.  When they occasionally play, I hold my breath as it is more like competition than play (at least in Lacey's mind).  Lily seems fairly oblivious to Lacey's jealousy.

I think Lily had a pretty good day, although she was still in zoomie mode at the end of our walk.  This girl can really run when she puts her mind to it.  And that long line didn't slow her down one bit.

We're Going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo

Just some random pics from the day.  I think I have so many butterfly pics because they were one of the only things that didn't have a cage between us and them.  I still have more pics but I thought I'd spread them out into at least one more post.  :)

And in case you were wondering, yes we listened to Raffi on the way there.

Elephant

Yesterday Jo, Amanda and I made a trip to the Calgary Zoo.  It was fun, but depressing all at the same time.  Some of the animals look so sad and bored, while others didn't seem phased at all.  For the most part, I think the Calgary Zoo has done a great job of creating fun, interactive habitats but it is still sad to see wild animals contained and on display.

More pictures to follow soon.

Growth

You know how you are supposed to be careful when you take pictures to make sure there isn't a tree or something, growing out of your friend's head....  Well I wasn't careful.

Weekend Fun

Marlin and I went to Calgary this weekend to visit with his family.  It was a lot of fun. I was very easily entertained by this little girl all weekend.  You can see more pictures of her here.

And when we got home there was even more fun to be had. My drawings from Wasco had arrived.  I LOVE them.

I love this last one of the two of them.  And I love they way I know which photos he modeled the drawings after.  Now I'm going to have to figure out a way to display them all.

Wasco

My drawings arrived today!  I'll show you more tomorrow but I couldn't resist showing you one now.
