With Pixel getting older, Lacey has been trying to talk her into getting a facelift.
If you just pull back here at the ears, look at how those eye wrinkles disappear.
So Coulee didn't exactly get a private walk last night. We decided to take the whole crew instead.
We are looking after 3 of Amanda's dogs this week as she is in Ottawa with Wicca for the Agility Nationals. Today I took the "wee ones" on an off leash walk without Coulee. I wanted the little ones to have a chance to actually fetch the toy for once, and taking 5 dogs with just one person seemed a little risky. At least that is what I told Vito. The rest of us really know why Coulee was left at home. ;)
Turns out I should have brought her. The park was dead and we didn't get very far before the storm came. The little ones had a great time fetching (Lacey is a fetching machine!) and Boone did great despite the thunder. As we all ran back to the car in the rain he was the only one who kept running back to make sure I was still coming.
This is us running back to the car. Yes, Boone is dragging a leash... I put it on when the thunder started just in case he decided to bolt. Turns out, I didn't need to worry.
And don't worry about Coulee... she'll get a private walk later tonight (without her pesky little brother) once the storm clouds have disappeared.
On second thought, that look of adoration is probably for the toy I have behind my back and not me.
Thanks Amanda for taking this!
Apparently Lacey is going through a "Anything you can do, I can do better" phase. Coulee is traditionally the "Poser" in the family. I could have get 100 pictures a day of Coulee doing this exact pose. She runs ahead, turns, looks and waits. Runs ahead, turns looks and waits. Over and over.
Lacey can even do it with a toy in her mouth - just like Coulee.
These are not the same two pictures. Apparently Coulee has the same expression whenever she splashes through the water.
Lacey is still learning but she almost has the look and body posture down pat.
Can you believe Lacey is actually in the lead? I told you she is learning to like fetch! And just look at the splash she is making.
Marlin and I haven't walked the girls together much lately. I usually go while he is at work, or I go out with friends and then when he wants to go, I take advantage of the time home alone. But it sure was nice to go out together again. We really should do it more often.
It was nice not to have to throw the toy and take pictures at the same time.
I am amazed at how much Lacey chases the toy now. She used to just chase Coulee but I think she has finally figured out what she's "supposed" to be doing. She is almost as intense as Coulee... for about 3 seconds anyway, before she loses interest. :)
How exciting is that?
The first day we got Zogoflex toys from West Paw Design, I went out in the daycare with the toys and the camera. The dogs had an absolute blast, especially with the Zisc (the frisbee). I sent the pictures I took to West Paw just to let them know how much the dogs enjoyed the toys. They e-mailed back and asked if we could send them the original files and if we would mind if they used them on their website or catalogue. Of course we wouldn't mind!
They did a write up last June on their website about the dogs at the daycare enjoying the toys, and used a picture in their zogoflex section of the website and I thought that was the end of it.
Today I was leafing through their new retailer catalogue and when I got to the section for the Zogoflex toys I was instantly drawn to their new toy - the bumi. And then I looked up and saw the picture. I recognized those black noses! That is Maggie Mae and Gus, two regulars who have been coming almost since we first opened.
Do you think Lacey could be trying any harder to keep up? Everyone else looks like they are just casually running along.
Lacey has been doing lots of new stuff lately. Ever since we stayed out at Liz and Andy's and she had to cross the river, she has been swimming. For a while, I thought she was just walking in deep water as her butt was always up in the air, but today it was obvious that her butt just floats when she swims.

And with her new found swimming skill she was actually trying to fetch the toy! She couldn't beat Coulee of course, but if we held Coulee back, she would swim out and get it.
I've been wanting to get her DNA tested to find out what she is. Maybe one of her long lost relatives is a retriever. :) (The only reason I haven't gotten her tested is because the test I want to do doesn't have cattle dog as one of the breeds that they look for and as that is what I think is one of her major breeds, I haven't seen the point.)
