I Need a Plan C

So I thought I had this week's photo figured out.  It is supposed to be a portrait that "defines or describes" someone even though you can't see their face.

I knew what I wanted to do, I discovered last week it wouldn't work as planned, came up with a viable solution... and then push came to shove and I went to take the photos and I realized it just wasn't going to look like I imagined it.

On to plan B...  While the let's-just-get-something-out-of-all-this-prep photos are fun, covering her face with a tennis ball just didn't look right. In fact, it looked down right weird.  I couldn't figure out if I should focus on the toy or her and it didn't actually matter in the end, as neither looked right.

So now I need a plan C... and it's due tomorrow.  Why do I do this to myself?  Or right... because it's fun.... Right?

The Boys

We were looking after Vito and Boone this past week.  We haven't looked after Vito since we got Jack as he isn't all that respectful of cats.  I swear Jack could sense this, as even though they never encountered each other, (although we don't know what happened when we were gone - Vito was in a crate, but could have scared him by barking) I didn't see Jack the whole time the boys were here.  In Vito's defence, he was a perfect angel with Lu - he didn't bother her once.

I couldn't fit all 4 in a car so I would take out the short ones one day (that included Boone) and then Coulee and Boone on other days as I thought Boone would appreciate the exercise more than the other two.

Boone is the most RANDOM dog ever.  He doesn't stay on the path for more than 10 steps at a time and just runs off in random directions after nothing.  I swear I had to call his name at least once a minute to keep him on track.  I lost him briefly on one walk and literally had no idea what direction he might have run.  Turns out he was hiding in the wetland plants but did come running (in his usual round about way) when I started calling him.

Lacey and Vito had so.much.fun.

Thanks boys for being so much fun.  You were the highlight of my week.  :)

A Rare Sighting

There is a reason you don't see many photos of Coulee and Lacey together... On walks they are fairly independent of each other.  Yesterday though, they seemed joined at the hip so I got not one, but two photos of them together!

Week 1 - Colour

It was fun to step into an urban environment for photos.  The red one is a fence down an alley and the blue building is a liquidation store right on a main street.  We went around back where it was quiet and deserted.  I went with the red one as my "official" photo for the week... Red is my favourite colour so I couldn't resist!

Edit:  I can't stop coming back to these. I love them.  They are just so... colourful!  I know that sounds silly as that was kind of the point, but it is so different from the usual browns and tans in my backgrounds.  One week in and I'm already loving the box that my 52 week project is forcing me out of.  :)

On the Lookout

Lacey is always on the look out for something, anything...  Luckily she doesn't ever seem to spot much.

But it does tend to lead to a lot of pictures of her gazing off into the distance.  :)

A New Year

Happy New Year.  Whether you want to or not, it's hard not to think about "fresh starts", "starting over", "putting the past behind us", "looking to the future" and so on, when everyone else is talking about it.  :)

The only "new project" I'm starting is a 52 weeks project but I'm combining two projects into one.  Lorelei and I are doing a 52 week project based on this book.  I'll be using Coulee as my "model" each week and participating in the Flickr group - 52 Weeks for Dogs.  It should be fun.

I hope to have back up plans for each week and as long as I don't leave it to the last minute, I shouldn't be scrambling... in theory.  :)  This week the theme is "Colour".  You are supposed to highlight a specific colour or colours.

I already tried Plan A...  I wanted a beautiful blue sky to compliment Coulee's rather orange coat as blue and orange are complimentary colours.  The photo is just a little dull.  I was hoping for a prettier sky.  I even stitched a few pictures together to get more blue but it's still very 'meh'.

For Plan B, I was hoping for a beautiful orange sunset and I was going to use a flash outside for the first time.  I got there early and played around but didn't account for the quickly dropping temperatures when the sun went down and I had to leave before the sky turned a gorgeous pink as my hands were freezing.  Looks like we won't have another decent sunset until Sunday so it looks like Plan B is not an option any more. :(

Good thing it is only Wednesday - I have a few more days to get a picture I like.
